Flu Vaccinations

Boys Town Pediatrics has received shipments of the influenza vaccine for the 2008 – 2009 season.

The American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends that all children aged 6 months to 18 years, should receive influenza vaccine. Each year the vaccine is updated to cover new strains of influenza. Have your child vaccinated now because it takes two weeks to develop protection against the illness, and the vaccination will last past this influenza season.

Influenza is a virus that causes high fever, severe cough, and body aches, which can lead to ear infections and pneumonia. Young children are especially susceptible to the complications of influenza, and school age children tend to spread the virus at school and home.

Some individuals who receive the vaccine may still get influenza if a new strain circulates that was not in the vaccine.

Please call your pediatric clinic to schedule an appointment for your child to receive influenza vaccine.
