In-Home Day Care
Characteristics:
- Someone comes into, or lives in, your home.
- Caregiver may be a friend, neighbor, relative, or someone
unfamiliar.
- May be half-day, all-day, or before or after school.
Advantages:
- Especially suitable for infants and toddlers who require
stable surroundings.
- Your child should receive ample, personal attention.
- Some light housekeeping may be included.
- May be the most economical option for three or more
children.
- Siblings can be cared for together.
- Close bond may develop between child and caregiver.
Disadvantages:
- Relatively difficult to find.
- May be the most expensive option for one or two children.
- Benefits may be required.
- Caregiver will not always be available (illness,
vacation), and turnover may be high.
- Your child may not get the stimulation of other children.
- Child-rearing philosophies may clash.
- Caregiver may not have appropriate training or
experience.
- Caregiver is not supervised directly.
Additional considerations for live-in arrangement:
- Family's need for privacy.
- Availability of extra room.
- Arrangements for meals and other household activities.
