Vestibular Tests: Left Appiani Maneuver

  • One treatment for Horizontal Canal BPPV is to do the Gufoni or the Appiani maneuver.  In this video we will be demonstrating how to treat left sided, horizontal canal BPPV with a Gufoni or Appiani maneuver.  For this maneuver, you have the patient lay away from the affected side, so if she has left sided horizontal canal BPPV we will ask her to lay down on the right side.  You’ll want to keep her head straight for one to two minutes or until any nystagmus fatigues.  After which we will have her turn her head with her head facing the floor, again for one to two minutes or until the nystagmus fatigues.  After which we will have her return to the seated position and turn her head back to the center.
