Bed Sharing with Your Baby

Dr. Megann Sauer
Boys Town Pediatrics

We recommend not to bed share with your babies mainly for safety reasons.  Babies sleep best if they are in their own mattress that is firm with a tight fitted sheet and nothing else because that lowers the risk of SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

If your baby is sharing your bed with you there is a higher risk that there could be suffocation because of your blankets or the mattress or even rolling over onto your baby.

As tempting as it is, bed sharing with your baby is not safe for your baby. Dr. Megann Sauer, Pediatrician with Boys Town Pediatrics, explains how to safely put your baby to sleep and why bed sharing is dangerous.
