Preparing for Your Infant’s Hearing Testing Using Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR)
Welcome to Boys Town Audiology. We’ve created the following video so our patients know what to expect at their appointment.
Your infant was referred to Boys Town Audiology due to a referral on their newborn hearing screening. They will be coming in for hearing testing using auditory brainstem response (ABR). During this appointment, we are going to look in your child’s ears, apply electrodes to your child’s head, place earphones in your child’s ears and then play sounds and record the response of your child’s hearing nerve.
This testing is most commonly used for infants, when they are six months or younger, because the testing requires them to sleep during the test. If the child is older than six months, we may use a different testing technique.
